Prime Minister Andrew Holness has expressed sadness at the impact of a series of earthquakes, which have affected Japan and Ecuador over the past few days.
The prime minister extended condolences to the Government and people of Japan and pledged Jamaica's support as both countries seek to recover from the earthquakes which have severely damaged infrastructure and caused loss of lives.
He recognised Japan as a true friend of the people of Jamaica and called on Jamaicans to keep the people of Japan in their prayers in this time of distress. He further expressed to Japanese nationals living in Jamaica, including the Japanese ambassador, sincere hope that their families at home are safe and advised that the Jamaican mission in Japan is checking that Jamaicans who live there are safe.
Prime Minister Holness also expressed to the Government and people of Ecuador sadness at the damage and injuries in that country and called on all Jamaicans to take timeout today to keep the people of Ecuador in their prayers.
The prime minister noted that while natural disasters do happen, he is deeply saddened by the devastating impact on families and the economies in both countries.
