Residents of the 'Sunshine City' say a hospital would be the amenity they would most like to be added to the St Catherine community.
As a resident of Portmore living here for 21 years now, I think there is a great need for a hospital. As you can see, we have all we need over here and we do not have to go into Kingston, and so I think a hospital will really bring a great improvement to our city.
"Right now, in Portmore, we would need a hospital. This, I think, would really improve Portmore. Spanish Town has its hospital and Kingston has its, so what about Portmore? We need a hospital, and the sewage system over here is overloaded."
"Portmore is in dire need of a hospital and the sewage system is terrible. Right now, whenever there is a medical emergency, we have to be going too far. In the case of an emergency, the hospital is too far."
"We need a hospital. When people take sick, we have to go too far and we don't know if we are going to make it in time. The hospitals are in Spanish Town and Kingston, and that is too far, so we need one right here in Portmore."
"We need a proper drainage system because the drainage system over here is really terrible. And this will improve our environment a lot. I think we also are desperately in need of a hospital because I heard once that they were going to build one, but I am not sure what happened. We would also need a big park so we don't have to go across the toll."
"We need a hospital and we need a post office over here. Newlands needs to be developed and the sewage system needs a lot of improvement because it's mostly pit we have over there, and we have to pay too much money to draw the load when the pits are full. The most important thing that we need is a hospital because we have to go to Spanish Town or Kingston. What if we don't reach in time? Then, we are dead."
"I think we would really need a hospital because Spanish Town is far and Kingston even worst, and an emergency can happen anytime, so we would really need a hospital. It has happened before when an emergency came up and it was very hectic because the traffic to go in Kingston can be terrible."
