The People’s National Party (PNP) says it's president Portia Simpson Miller will be seeking re-election when the party holds its annual conference later this year.

This was confirmed by PNP General Secretary Paul Burke in an interview on Cliff Hughes Online on Power 106 FM this morning.

Simpson Miller has been facing pressure to step down following the party’s election defeat from the February General Election.

The call was renewed yesterday at a meeting of the party’s second highest decision-making body, National Executive Council (NEC).

However, Burke says this is not in the immediate future of the party president.

The PNP General Secretary says information about nominations will be released today.

Former PNP General Secretary Peter Bunting has already signaled his intention to seek the presidency of the party.

However, supporters of former vice-president, Dr Phillips, believe that it is Phillips' time to assume the reigns of the PNP.
