The Health Ministry has now confirmed reports of a death related to the Guillian-Barre Syndrome (GBS), at the Kingston Public Hospital.
The ministry says the 78-year-old man died on Tuesday.
Chief Medical Officer, Dr Winston De La Haye, says although the patient did not show signs relating to the Zika virus, the ministry is yet to receive test results to confirm if it was a case of virus-related GBS.

In the meantime, De La Haye is urging the hospital to be prompt in reporting cases like this.

The death was announced yesterday in a release by Opposition Spokesman on Health, Horace Dalley.
However, up to last night, the Health Ministry had no information on the death.
In the meantime, the Health Ministry says there are three confirmed cases of patients with GBS who are Zika positive.
But De La Haye says the patients have been discharged from hospital and are currently doing well.
He says another seven GBS patients are currently being monitored for zika symptoms.
