Member of Parliament for East Rural St Andrew Juliet Holness recently teamed up with the Guardian Group to give more than 4,000 children back-to-school assistance.
Over four days, Holness toured her constituency hosting 10 treats in Halls Delight Primary School, Mavis Bank Square, Gordon Town Community Centre, Maryland Square, Woodford Square, Ten Miles, Bull Bay, Dallas Castle Community Centre, Kintyre Community Centre, Bedward Gardens football field and Harbour View Primary School. Children received stationery, rides and medicals, which were provided by the Guardian Group and doctors Tamara McKenzie, Marjorie Vassel and doctor/singer Mario Evon.
Holness has committed to assisting those in need and has urged those who can afford to contribute to do so by contacting 977-9999.
"I intended to assist as many children as possible It was not an easy task but we managed to make every child leave with a token. I am grateful for the volunteer doctors and the team from the Guardian Group because many of the people living in the deep rural parts of the constituency do not have access to proper health-care facilities. Many children and adults got their check-ups for free," Holness said.
