Former industry, investment and commerce minister, Anthony Hylton, says he’s pleased that the government is pushing ahead with the Goat Islands development project.
In its Memorandum of Economic and Financial Policies submitted to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) the Government said it will proceed with plans to build a transshipment port on the Goat Islands as was originally announced under the previous People's National Party government.
The proposed project is to be undertaken by China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) in a $190-billion investment.
Hylton says he believes the project is significant for Jamaica and is worth pursuing.

Hylton says the change in position by the now governing Jamaica Labour Party highlights that the previous administration was on the right path to developing a logistic hub in Jamaica.
