The St Elizabeth Technical frontline pair of Jovoney Brown and Demar James continued their rich goalscoring form as each netted a brace to fire STETHS to a comfortable 4-1 win over Lacovia in their ISSA/Flow Zone E daCosta Cup match in Santa Cruz yesterday.
With the win, STETHS also punched their ticket for the Inter-Zone round with one game left in the group phase of the competition alongside Cornwall College, Dinthill, Manchester High, and Vere Technical.
Brown has, so far, scored 11 times, while James appears to be just warming to the task, with five goals in as many matches. Their goalscoring exploits are all the more important with the season loss of dependable striker Romio Wright.
STETHS move on to 21 points courtesy of the win, with the skillful James opening the scoring in the 8th minute. It was a simple goal, casually taken by the player, as his shot to the far corner was hard and low, leaving little chance for Lacovia keeper Chavaughn Dennis.
His second came in the 56th minute when Dennis fumbled the ball and James capitalised with an even easier attempt to make the game 4-0.
In between his strikes, Brown, who has been carrying the bulk of STETHS scoring weight, got on to the score sheet in the 14th and 45th minute to take his tally for the season so far to 11 and second in the goal scorers race, two adrift of Jevaughn Ennis of Glenmuir High.
"It always feels good to get goals. Today, we should have scored more, but four was enough," he told The Gleaner.
Oshane Staple scored Lacovia's consolation in the 87th minute as the sheen from their win over the champions just over a week ago was muddied by the loss, which keeps them third in the zone on 13 points, with Munro College holding on to the second automatic qualifying spot.
Munro easily brushed aside Black River 4-0 to strengthen their chances of advancing to the next round. They have 15 points.
