Acting Police Commissioner, Novelette Grant, has reported that between January 1, 2016 and February 4, 2017 the Police arrested and charged 1,442 perpetrators for violent offences against women.
Grant made the disclosure at a press conference yesterday where the Government outlined measures to tackle, among other things, an upsurge in crimes against women and children.
The acting police commissioner said among the arrests and charges are 252 cases of rape and 237 cases of having sex with someone under the age of 16.

Grant said the police will be stepping up its public education campaign on domestic violence.
She said the constabulary force will also be increasing its sensitisation of police personnel about domestic relationship issues.
