A Jamaican man has been arrested in the United States and charged with the stabbing death of his estranged wife, who is also Jamaican.
The police in New York City say 36-year-old Andre Curtis was formally charged yesterday with manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon in the death of his wife Sophia Lamb last November.
The body of the 44-year-old nursing assistant was found inside her Bronx apartment with multiple stab wounds.
Relatives say she and her husband met in Jamaica 15 years ago and the two moved in together last June after he migrated to the US.
However, Miss Lamb’s father, Audley Malcolm, told the New York Daily News last November that within a month his son-in-law became controlling and was kicked out of the matrimonial home.
Curtis was listed as a person of interest by police investigators after relatives reported that he showed up at her apartment a day before Miss Lamb’s death saying he wanted to talk.
The Bronx District Attorney’s Office reports that Curtis was hospitalised up to late yesterday and is yet to make his first court appearance.
