Businessman Patrick Powell is to return to the Kingston Parish Court this morning where a new trial date is expected to be set for his second criminal trial in the past five months.
Powell has been charged with failing to turn over his licensed firearm to police investigators probing the shooting death of Kingston College student Khajeel Mais in 2011.
The case was adjourned last month to allow Powell’s attorney Deborah Martin time to get outstanding transcripts of the testimonies of two witnesses in the businessman’s murder trial last year.
Powell was arrested and charged with murder arising from Mais’ death, but was freed last October after prosecutors decided to offer no further evidence against him.
