In keeping with the annual pomp and splendour, yesterday, schools across the island marked Jamaica Day as staff and students were clad in the national colours, under the theme 'Celebrating Jamaica: Exploring Our Legacy in a Global Context'.
The annual Jamaica Day in schools is part of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information's aim to develop patriotism within students that is required for the cultural and social development of the country.
"I love wearing my Jamaican colours, even when it's not Jamaica Day. Our teachers taught us that it's important to celebrate your country," stated 12-year-old student Brandi Reece.
For six-year-old grade one student Bradley Reece, "It's nice! I play and my friends play, and I wear green."
