The Cabinet has approved the restructuring of the Attorney General’s Department as part of the Government’s plan to centralise legal service in the public sector.
It says the department will become the legal hub which will include managers, legal officers and other employees in the various ministries.
These workers will report to the Solicitor General.
The Cabinet Office explains that legal officers will remain within their Ministries but with oversight provided within the structure of the Attorney General’s Department.
It says it is anticipated that the centralisation will increase the efficiency and consistency of legal services provided throughout the Government.
The plan is to be implemented in phases.
