On June 29, the Shipping Association of Jamaica (SAJ) responded to the increasing need for information by hosting a workshop titled 'Introduction to Cybersecurity', facilitated by information technology and security consultant Kimberley Hall.
The workshop participants were from the public and private sectors representing various industries such as shipping, banking, public works and scientific research. They found the workshop useful in providing best practices in developing an effective cybersecurity programme. These included preventing cyberattacks and detecting vulnerabilities. They were also provided with guidelines for the implementation of company policies and procedures to protect entities from cyber invasion. Participant also benefited from the guidelines for creating an incident response and management plan in the event of an attack.
"Ms Hall, the workshop's presenter, really understands the role and realities of the IT professional," said Garry Anderson, systems administrator at Jamaica Freight and Shipping Company Limited. "Her knowledge of content, especially policies, is excellent. She has inspired me to implement her recommendations in our company and we are already seeing the benefits."
The SAJ will be hosting a workshop titled 'Cutting Edge Customer Service' on July 19, 2017.
