SUBBIE is now licking his lips ahead of tomorrow's opening race in the Sunrise-6 at Caymanas Park.
With TRUE WHISPER, LUCKY STROKE, SARAH LEE and DR BANNER expected to be chasing the headlines in the 1820 metres event, the race will be set up for a genuine run-on horse and one who truly loves the distance.
The Gary Subratie-trained three-year-old colt won on May 6 then went into a classic campaign against the best of his age group, where he failed to spark. Back among non-winners of two on a sloppy track, August 5, SUBBIE scored an easy win, going 1400 metres. He is better suited by tomorrow's trip and is expected to sit behind the speed before coming to the fore in the final 200 metres.
The well-bred filly, EXHILARATE (Blue Pepsi Lodge - Purejoy), will score an easy win in the second race, the 1000 metres round Terremoto Trophy for two-year-olds. Trained by Philip Feanny, EXHILARATE slammed rivals by four lengths over 600m on her debut and will be much too classy for her four rivals.
Race three is a really knotty event, where ZACKONTHEATTACK, UNBREAKABLE, DASHBOARD and STIR IT UP all have strong chances in the 1500 metres race. The one best equipped to pull off a win is STIR IT UP. The five-year-old mare has been performing very well in this 450,000 claiming group and is now down to a weight level where she can dictate the early pace and then pull away from rivals in the latter stages of the race.
Trainer Steven Todd should pull off a quick double in race four with TASHIE BABY. The handicaps are strongly in favour of the five-year-old mare in this 1300 metres event and she will go all the way.
Our year-old-and-up maidens will run over 800 metres straight in the last two Sunrise-6 races. In race five, the lightly raced PAPA ALBERT showed enough on his June 24 debut to suggest that he has the ability to take care of this level, while in the sixth, the speedy LADY V gets the perfect draw on the stands' side and will go all the way.
