Now in its fifth year, the Summer of Service (SOS) competition is conceptualised and executed by the 'I Believe' Initiative, an arm of the governor general's Programme for Excellence. The programme seeks to inspire youth matriculating in or completing their undergraduate degree to participate in voluntarism, while being rewarded for their service with academic assistance. The competition also aims to instil social responsibility and a call to nation building through participatory experience. This year, the NCB Foundation invested more than $1.5 million through its scholarship and grants programme to the SOS competition, payable over the next three to four years with GPA, ambassadorship, and other stipulations.
