When dancehall meets fashion, recording artiste Tifa spells it out in style!
The Big Bumpa singer isn't afraid of being bold and flaunting the glitz, the glamour and casually chic attire. Latifa Brown, better known as Tifa, explained to the Flair Magazine that fashion and dancehall go hand in hand, describing her own fashion sense as unique, like her artistic talent for music. "It's all a part of the culture. Once you get dressed up and go out into the world, you become a product and a brand you portray, based on your talent. So the package has to look good or at least make a statement. I'm known for doing just that and being different in the process."
She attributes the unearthing of her distinct taste to the late great stylist Dexter Pottinger, noting he knew what she liked and how to bring Tifa across to the masses. "I was never one to follow trends! I just do me and wear what I like. Dexter Pottinger was at the helm of it all and helped significantly to make my brand into focus when it came to styling. Stage time is work time. Once the persona Tifa comes out, I dress accordingly: a little sultry, a little different, and a little risque too."
She recalls her 2011 Reggae Sumfest performance outfit designed by Pottinger, being made from broken CDs. But it took on new meaning, articulating high fashion when she popped out of a life sized gift box, singing her trending tracks. Then there was space green suit for her Youth View Awards performance in 2010 which became the talk of the town after she entered on her name. This suit was also designed by Pottinger.
Off stage, the Dancehall diva opts for simplicity and can be found rocking mostly sporty brand because of her love for sneakers and sweat suits, "I love Cavalli and Gucci, because I love to add their vintage vibe to a modern look. Carlton brown is great too because I love a good suit whether on a male or female! And he has the fitting locked! Versace is also a brand of choice for me as well," she added. She's also a big fan of ripped jeans and Tim's, with a cute top. For her, style is all about comfort.
