Western Bureau:
Waterhouse FC picked up their first point in the second city in more than three years when the Red Stripe Premier League encounter against hosts Montego Bay United (MBU) ended in a 2-2 draw at WesPow Park yesterday.
Akino Morgan, deputising for regular Waterhouse coach Donovan Duckie who is away on national duties, said it is a great feeling for them to break the spell.
"Although the coach is not here nothing has changed. Everything is still the same tactically as if he was here," Morgan said after the game.
"Good result, a point on the road and a great feeling. Since 2015, Waterhouse have not got a significant result in Montego Bay, so this is a turning point," he added.
Montego Bay United's technical director, Timothy Hankinson, said, despite the defensive errors, they played fairly well, but called on his team to show more determination and purpose.
"I was pleased to see the two goals we scored, but we didn't play like we were pushing for the playoffs," he said
Hankinson, who tried a new system yesterday with five at the back, blamed lack of match fitness for silly defensive errors that prevented them from taking maximum points.
"We have only played one match out of the last three so, to me ,I didn't think we were in match form or fit as we looked a bit rusty so we are working on that ... we have just got to find ways tactically to prevent teams from getting opportunities," said Hankinson.
Waterhouse went ahead in the 36th minute when Kemar Beckford headed home an in-swinging free-kick at the back post. Four minutes later Ronaldo Rodney found the equaliser for MBU shooting a low cross into the bottom corner. Montego Bay took the lead in the 66th minute courtesy of a Lesley St Fleur header but Beckford got a second goal in the 81st to earn a point for the visitors.
With the point Waterhouse remained in fifth with 32 points while Montego Bay are 10th on 24.
