Kingston is one of five parishes with no road deaths since the start of the year.

The others are St Thomas, St Elizabeth, Manchester and Clarendon.

Since the start of the year 34 persons have died in motor vehicle crashes, with 31 recorded last month.

This is an 11 per cent decrease when compared with the 39 road deaths recorded over the corresponding period last year.

A total of 320 persons died on the nation’s roadways last year, 59 less than was recorded for 2016.

Vice-Chairman of the National Road Safety Council (NRSC), Dr Lucien Jones believes the reduction in motor vehicle deaths is an indication that the work being done by his organisation, the police and other stakeholders are beginning to have an impact.

Jones says the various stakeholder groups now need to take advantage of the provisions in the new Road Traffic Act in order to build on these gains.
