On the heels of Dat A Gwaan Jamaica: Remix, writer/director Dahlia Harris of DMH Productions has brought to the stage what could be another humour-filled presentation. Instead of a revue, theatre fans can plan their date nights around a romantic comedy. Opening on Friday, May 25, at the Jamaica Shopping Club Theatre (formerly Green Gables), Case of the Ex! is expected to explore that awkward, annoying situation in which the past just won't stay there.
Case of the Ex! centres around DJ Cheetah (played by Kadeem Wilson), a young music producer struggling to reclaim his popularity in the music industry, who is in a relationship with Dymond (Alexandra Gregory), who wants to become a star. After the launch of a song competition, DJ Cheetah recruits his ex-girlfriend, DJ Cyattie (Dahlia Harris), to help him make it to the top. But Cyattie has her own plans and another prize she's going to fight to win.
Wilson's credits include local films Ghett-A-Life, Home Again and Destiny. He has also starred in several theatrical productions, including the LTM Pantomime and the recently staged drama Who a Di Don featuring iconic thespian Oliver Samuels.
"Alexandra was actively involved in the Ardenne High School arts programme, earning multiple awards at the parish and national levels of the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission speech and drama competition. Her experience with the Tableaux Centre for the Dramatic Arts, Tribe Sankofa and, more recently, the Quilt Performing Arts Company has contributed to the maturity she brings to each character. We saw this in TVJ's social drama Inna De Bus. We are extremely happy to showcase her skills to a wider theatre audience," Harris said.
