Rainforest Seafoods is building on its partnership with Food For The Poor (FFP) Jamaica through its recently staged 5K Run/Walk. The company remains committed to the aims of the charity organisation, which provides support for the most vulnerable in society through its various programmes.
Since 2015, Rainforest has been supporting FFP's 5K fundraising initiative. Last year, the seafood company decided to step up its support by launching a campaign whereby $50 from selected Rainforest products sold would be donated to FFP's housing projects. This year, through this renewed campaign, Rainforest will be donating $750,000 to build houses for citizens in need. The proceeds over the first three stagings of the Run/Walk had been used to construct more than 170 houses.
"Rainforest was inspired to continue the partnership after seeing, at first hand, how grateful recipients were to receive the keys to their new homes," said Rainforest Chief Executive Officer Brian Jardim. He pointed to the fact that since Food For The Poor's inception in 1983, the charitable organisation has constructed more than 42,000 houses for destitute families across the island. "This demonstrates the dedication and commitment of their staff and management."
FFP also decided to widen the scope of benefits offered to participants in the annual 5K. They decided to not only focus on housing, but also on providing sustainable income for the less fortunate. They offered donors the opportunity to choose from various sustainable agricultural initiatives that will make a difference to many people in need, improving their lives and those of their families.
"The entire Rainforest team is on board, as we all share in the mission of the organisation- changing lives and restoring Jamaican families," stated Jardim. "It goes hand in hand with Rainforest Seafoods' mission to 'Eat Good, Do Good'."
