The National Works Agency (NWA) is to begin work today to restore the traffic signals at the Maxfield Avenue/East Avenue/Spanish Town Road intersection in Kingston.
Until the repairs are complete, the NWA is urging motorists to continue to approach the intersection with caution.
Acting Communication Manager at the NWA, Ramona Lawson says the traffic signals stopped working last week after controller cables were damaged as a result of excavation works.
Lawson points out that works are now ongoing on the realignment of Maxfield Avenue and East Avenue to create a T-junction to aid with the more efficient movement of vehicular traffic through the intersection.
She says the works include the demolition of structures, the relocation of utilities infrastructure, to include traffic signal cables and mast arms.
Lawson says that though the signalised intersection is to be upgraded following the completion of the current works, the NWA is undertaking a temporary fix so as to continue to regulate the movement of traffic through the busy intersection.
Motorists are being reminded that under the present circumstances the intersection is to be treated as a four-way stop and that no one has the right of way while the traffic lights are out of operation.
