WESTERN BUREAU:
The Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guard and the Trelawny police have suspended their search for a raft captain and his grandson, who are feared to have drowned after they went missing in the Martha Brae River earlier Tuesday.
The identities of the two missing persons have not yet been released.
Acting superintendent for the Trelawny police division, Winston Milton, told The Gleaner that the search will continue at first light Wednesday morning, as efforts are currently being hampered by poor visibility.
"The area is wide and very long and it is going to be a difficult task, and at this point it is getting dark, so continuing now and into the rest of the evening seems like an exercise in futility," said Milton.
It is reported that residents contacted the police after the two individuals went missing, and the police subsequently called the Coast Guard to assist in the search.
