The Hanover Municipal Corporation says that an ongoing partnership with the police is helping to restore order across the parish.
The municipal corporation says that several measures have been implemented in the capital, Lucea, and Green Island, for example, to ensure that residents comply with the law.
Among the measures is a campaign to put an end to illegal construction; illegal parking, especially in the capital; and a no-vending campaign targeted at removing illegal stalls from the streets of Lucea.
Craig Oates, enforcement and compliance manager at the Hanover Municipal Corporation, says the department is on a relentless drive to bring order to all towns and districts across the parish.
"We are not going to just start and stop. We will be consistent because the breakdown of order across the parish, in general, and in Lucea, in particular, is having a significant impact on the residents of the parish," said Oates.
He continued: "Persons are selling on the sidewalks. They impede passers-by, and to make matters worse, at the end of the day, they get up and leave the garbage they generated at the same place."
Several illegal stalls and shops have already been removed or destroyed in the Lucea Market, the Lucea Transport Centre, and also in Green Island. Oates says that the municipal council's actions have resulted in pedestrians being able to go about their business in greater comfort.
