Spot Valley High School, who will travel to Holland High School this afternoon in search of their first win in five games in the ISSA/WATA daCosta Cup, are looking to get back on track to meet their objective of making it to the quarter-finals for the third year in a row.
The side has picked up only two points from their last four games after winning their two opening games and currently sit third in Zone C with eight points after six games, four behind Herbert Morrison and 10 adrift of leaders Cedric Titus, who have both played one more game.
"We will have to get a win [today]," said Gregory Palmer, coach of Spot Valley. "It's a young team, so inexperience is creeping in. We haven't been scoring a lot of goals despite creating the chances, and I guess that is what's causing a major problem. If we can score from our chances, we should come away with the points."
Gregory blames their home form for Spot Valley's current position as this is the first they have been losing at home in three seasons. He believes that a win on the road would boost their confidence to get maximum points from their two remaining home matches.
"The guys are upbeat about winning the game and trying to qualify for the second round. That would be the objective for this year, although we are looking past the second round," said Palmer.
"Definitely, a win always boosts confidence. We have four games to play, so if we can maximise on the points, we should be able to qualify. We need to get positive results from the two away games and then finish it at home, although we haven't had a good result so far this season at home," he added.
Palmer said he will be looking for team captain Dalton Wright, Jaheel Parkinson, Linval Luton, and his 14-year-old talisman Nataniel Wilson to lead their turnaround starting tomorrow.
