Ganja prohibition in the United States (US) through the Marijuana Tax Act was primarily motivated by racism against migrating Mexicans and spread through public deception. During the establishment of the act, led by Harry J. Anslinger, no scientific evidence was presented that supports absurd claims such as marijuana use leads to "rape and murder". In fact, marijuana was a key ingredient of many medicinal products in the US before its ban in 1937. Many persons did not even realise that the act was banning the same substance they have used for years, which they knew by its scientific name, Cannabis.
