Repainting your home is no easy feat, especially if you're new to the painting scene. There are several small, but important elements to consider such as: paint sheen, paint type and most importantly, paint colour.
No need to stress about the details. Here are a few tips on how to select the right paint for your home.
Paint comes in a variety of sheens and are commonly oil and water-based. Water-based paint is the most commonly used and preferred paint type, because it is easy to clean, as well as durable and long lasting. For walls and household uses, water-based paints are recommended. On the other hand, oil-based paints are great for priming wooden finishes.
The glossier the paint, the easier it is to clean. If the room you are painting has heavy traffic (and is frequently visited by small children) low sheen paint is perfect for you, as it is easy to wipe the wall with a damp sponge.
You can change the feel of any room in your home with a little planning and some colour.
You can make a small room look larger and more airy by painting it with cool colours such as blues, greens and purples, while reds, yellows and oranges, will give a room a more vibrant appearance.
Always remember that you can vary colours to create subtle or stark contrast throughout your home. Colours closest to each other on the colour wheel, such as blue and purple, are analogous to each other and will allow one colour to stand out. However, colours opposite each other on the colour wheel, such as green and red, are complementary to one another and will nicely play off each other.
While it may seem like a daunting task at first, with a little paint and a lot of imagination, you can easily change the look and feel of any room in your home.
