A team from the Electronic Single Window for Trade (ESWT) made a short stop at the Shipping Association of Jamaica’s (SAJ) offices recently to sensitise some of its members on the project. The ESWT enables traders to submit documentation and/or data requirements for importation, exportation, or transit of goods through a single-entry point.
The project will allow for greater transparency in accurate, reliable and timely information. It also promises greater efficiency by streamlining processes, procedures, cost and resources. The result is expected to be the enhancement of Jamaica’s competitiveness through improving the way of doing business, building capacity and technology.
‘Jamaica is the first country in the Caribbean to implement a full-blown ESWT,” revealed Maurice Coke, the national project manager of the Electronic Single Window. He continued, “The success of this project is dependent on the strong collaborative relationships and consistent stakeholder participation and engagement, if objectives are to be achieved.”
A full presentation of the Electronic Single Window for Trade is expected to follow in the coming weeks.
