Edgehill School of Special Education in Trinity, St Mary, is to be the main focus of the St Mary Municipal Corporation on Labour Day, May 23.
Chairman of the corporation and Mayor of Port Maria, Richard Creary, said that while some attention will also be given to Pringle’s Children’s Home in Carron Hall, Edghehill remains the main focus of the corporation.
“This year Labour Day, we will be at Edgehill School of [Special Education] on the same compound as Trinity Primary School,” Creary revealed in an interview.
“We’ll be doing a number of things there this year, including [providing] a tank. There is a section to the back of the premises that is threatened by land slippage, so we’ll be planting some vetiver grass to hold the soil so that they don’t have the slippage. We’ll be putting in piping for [rainwater] harvesting as well,” he disclosed.
The team will also build a French drain to lead water off the compound whenever it rains, and some work will also be done on the bathrooms.
The school facilitates the teaching of literacy, numeracy and vocational skills to persons with intellectual disabilities from age six to 20 in St Mary.
Outside of these two projects, councillors in the municipality are expected to carry out work on projects in their respective divisions.
