Usain Bolt has made no secret of his love for incarcerated Vybz Kartel’s work, so it is little wonder that the celebrated lyricist is featured on the retired sprinter’s latest foray into the music world.
Bolt’s second riddim – ‘Immortal’ – drops today, riding the wave of what he considers a successful first attempt with ‘Olympe Rose’, which was released five months ago, serving as accompaniment to the 9.58 star’s summer-released champagne. To build on that momentum, ‘Immortal’ hits airwaves just in time for Yuletide parties.
“When I heard the ‘Immortal’ riddim I just knew it was right for the Christmas season. Thus, I put [plans] in motion to get some of Jamaica’s favourite artistes on the project,” Bolt said.
“I believe dancehall fans throughout the world will appreciate the musical artistry of the various artistes on this project,” Bolt told The Gleaner yesterday.
Munga Honorable and Ding Dong make a return on this riddim. So, too, does Chris Martin by way of his alter ego, Zuzu. Masicka and Demarco are also featured.
“Many people here in Jamaica and all over the world have told me that they enjoyed my first music project and want me to continue to represent the culture of reggae-dancehall,” he said.
“We have had international companies contacting us, wanting to secure the rights to the riddim for games, documentaries, etc. Hopefully, my management can work out terms for some of these projects.”
