Texaco Jamaica recently hosted a month-long Fire Safety Monitor Certification Training for its service station retailers and employees all across the island. Approximately 195 persons took part in the sessions, which took place from July 7 to 28, and which saw each participant being certified in fire-safety training by the Jamaica Fire Brigade, which provided both theoretical and practical training scenarios. Participants also received security and hurricane-preparedness training provided by Texaco’s internal Health, Safety, Security, and Environment Department.
Retail Manager at GB-Energy Texaco Jamaica George Simpson said: “The decision to conduct the training sessions arose out of a network-wide decision earlier in the year to revamp and restructure the fire-safety sessions that are usually conducted for employees.” He added: “Safety of our people, customers, property, and environment is paramount for us, and the training sessions were a part of our ongoing efforts to maintain the highest levels of safety at our stations. I must thank the Jamaica Fire Brigade for their usual support as over the years, they have been a key stakeholder in the staging of these sessions.”
Retailer for the Trafalgar Road Texaco Station in Kingston Lloyd Chambers, who participated in the training sessions, said: “From start to finish, the sessions were very well put together, and I found the information presented useful and interesting. I will now use the information to strengthen our current safety protocols.” He continued, “Thanks to the Texaco team for a job well done, and I also congratulate the Jamaica Fire Brigade on an excellent presentation.”
In order to be officially certified by the Jamaica Fire Brigade, each participant had to pass an exam that was administered at the end of each training session.
