Prosecutors have withdrawn the charge against Jamaica Labour Party Councillor Kari Douglas for breaches of the Disaster Risk Management Act.

Douglas, represented by attorney-at-law Peter Champagnie, appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court today.

About 9:28 on April 7, Douglas was driving along Meadowbrook Avenue in St Andrew when she was reportedly stopped by the police.

It is reported that while being questioned, she became boisterous and hurled abusive language at the police.

She was subsequently charged with disorderly conduct and breaches of the Disaster Risk Management Act and was later offered $20,000 station bail.

In court, Champagnie argued that as a councillor, Douglas was exempted under the Disaster Risk Management Act as she was on her way home after attending to her lawful duty.

The prosecution then withdrew the charge for breaches of the Act.

Douglas will return to the Petty Session Court on January 13 next year for a hearing into the charge of disorderly conduct.
