WESTERN BUREAU:
People’s National Party (PNP) self-proclaimed ‘Chairman for Life’ Robert Pickersgill has been admitted to the University Hospital of the West Indies.
Highly placed sources in the PNP confirmed his hospitalisation, but declined to speak about his condition, referring The Gleaner to Pickersgill’s family.
The 77-year-old is reportedly in the intensive care unit.
Pickersgill, who served as minister of water, land, environment and climate change in the PNP administration up to 2016, was admitted on Thursday. He held the St Catherine North Western seat from 1989 to 2020.
Pickersgill bowed out of representational politics in August, opening the door for Councillor Hugh Graham, who retained the seat for the PNP in the September 3 general election.
