FLOW Jamaica is helping to enable the progress of several young women who are participating in Eve for Life’s Orphan and Vulnerable Programme.

The two-year holistic programme – which focuses on capacity building and advocacy – caters to the educational and personal needs of girls ranging from ages 12 to 19 years.

The communications and entertainment firm donated 15 mobile devices to the programme and has provided the participants with data connectivity, starting with an initial three-month period.

“We are mindful of the need for persons to connect, especially during this time, hence our efforts to assist Eve for Life in such a significant way. This programme is critical to furthering the holistic development of these young women across the island and connecting them to opportunities to further their progress,” said Kayon Mitchell, director of communications and stakeholder engagement, Flow.

Danik Frazer, programme and advocacy officer at Eve for Life, welcomed the much-needed support.

“Our aim is to create a community among the girls, and the donation from Flow has enabled them to connect with each other in very meaningful ways, while fulfilling the requirements of the programme,” Frazer stated.

The girls are taught communication skills, navigating social media and basic peer education, among other topics.

Sonte Davis, a youth advocate leader with Eve for Life and participant, had high praises for the programme which she said helped to shape her outlook on life.

“It has provided very useful information on women’s reproductive and sexual health, which you don’t often hear elsewhere. I’ve also come to realise that my words can have a powerful effect on the people I communicate with,” Davis shared.

The 17 young ladies who are currently enrolled in the initial phase of the programme range from 12 to 19 years in age. Sixteen of them are high-school students while one attends university. Once they complete the Orphan and Vulnerable Programme, some will remain to assist and mentor other young women.
