A woman is suing McDonald's after claiming that an advert for a cheeseburger caused her to break Lent.
Ksenia Ovchinnikova has taken legal action against the fast-food giant as she was unable to resist a promotion for cheeseburgers and McNuggets.
The devout Christian had decided to give up meat for 40 days but spotted the promotion whilst walking through the city of Omsk in Russia during Lent 2019.
After not eating meat for a month, Ovchinnikova devoured a cheeseburger after seeing the advertisement and is now seeking compensation of 1,000 rubles - the equivalent of £10 for "moral damages".
Her statement claimed: "At this point, the promotion had been running for about a month. After I saw the ad, I couldn't help myself, I visited McDonald's and bought a cheeseburger.
"I see a violation of the law on consumer protection. I have asked the court to investigate and, if a violation has taken place, to force McDonald's to compensate me for moral damages to RUB 1,000."
