England forward Raheem Sterling dedicated his goal against hosts Hungary in World Cup qualifying, on Thursday, to his late friend, Jamaican socialite Steffie Gregg, who died earlier this week.
Sterling, Jamaican by birth, scored in the 55th minute then pulled off his jersey to reveal an undershirt with the words "Love you forever Steffie Gregg.
Gregg was the daughter of former race car driver and businessman Gary Gregg, and also the sister of Kyle Gregg, also a race car driver. She passed on Tuesday from COVID-19 complications. She was said to have had an auto-immune condition.
Gregg is also the niece of dancehall record producer Rvssian.
She was also a Twitch streamer, and was also pictured in photographs with Sterling, who frequents Jamaica when given time off from England and Manchester City Football Club duties.
Sterling's goal was the first in England's 4-0 win in a game where there were also allegations of racial abuse by Hungary fans against England's black footballers.
