President of Netball Jamaica (NJ), Tricia Robinson, says her association will beef up security at the Sunshine Girls’ Netball House as they prepare to go into camp ahead of their Tri-nation Series against South Africa and Trinidad and Tobago next month.
Two Toyota Coaster buses owned by NJ and used to transport national netball teams to and from training, and also to matches, were stolen from the Netball House on August 15.
Netball House is the name given to the official base of Jamaica’s netball teams. It is located at 17 Widcombe Road in St Andrew.
Robinson told The Gleaner that her association will be leaving nothing to chance and therefore they have gone ahead with plans to ensure that the property as well as the Sunshine Girls will be properly secure whenever the Jamaicans are in camp.
“It is only natural that we secure the place properly,” said Robinson. “We have met with KingAlarm and suggestions were made and the suggestions were taken,” she said.
“Security is important for all in Jamaica and so, when somebody comes to your home and violates your space, it is not a good feeling and we have to ensure that something like this does not happen again,” Robinson said. One of the stolen buses was donated by the Jamaica Public Service and the other by FLOW. Both were comprehensively insured.
The much-anticipated series, called the Supreme Ventures Margaret Beckford Series, will be played behind closed doors at the National Indoor Sports Centre from October 9-23. Budget Car Rental are the official transportation sponsors for the series, and Horizon Pharmacy are medical-kit sponsors. The Sunshine Girls are ranked fourth in the world, one place above South Africa, while Trinidad and Tobago are ranked tenth.
