SPEEDSTERS ROY ROGERS and LURE OF LUCY used their pace and class to land their respective divisions of yesterday’s Errol ‘Big Sub’ Memorial Trophy at a mile.
ROY ROGERS’ used his consistency and claim-induced lightweight 112lb to run rivals into the ground, clocking 1:39.2 in division one.
The grey quickly took control coming across the dummy barrier and hugged the rail for the entire mile, quickening away from MARQUESAS off the home turn, winning by nearly a dozen lengths with claiming-rider Nicholas Hibbert at odds of 3-2.
LURE OF LUCY, running at odds of 8-5, completed a hat-trick of wins in division two, posting 1:40.1, first fighting off old warrior SUPERLUMINAL before holding fellow importee GO DEH GIRL by a length and a half in a driving finish.
Philip Feanny’s FAULT LINE, a 3-5 favourite, closed late with claiming rider Shane Richardson to narrowly land the Heroes Day Stakes Trophy at seven furlongs by a neck, catching 4-1 chance SLAMSILANO at the wire.
Racing continues on Saturday.
