SEVEN Jamaicans, headed by 2016 Olympic Games and 2017 World Championships 110m hurdles champion Omar McLeod, will descend on New York today for the 114th Millrose Games scheduled to take place at the New Balance Track and Field Centre.

With the World Athletics Indoor Championships down to take place February 18-22 in Serbia, a lot of top performances are expected at the meet. McLeod will contest the 60 metres, which will get underway at 2:55 p.m. McLeod will be joined in the event by countryman Kevaughn Rattray, a former St Jago High athlete.

In what is a loaded field, the Jamaicans will have their hands full as the United States will be well represented. They will be led by Treyvon Bromell, the world’s fastest man over 100m last year. Bromell was also World Indoor 60m champion in 2016. Also in the field for the Americans are 2019 World 100m champion Christian Coleman, Ronnie Baker, who was fifth in the 100m final in Tokyo last year, along with the Lyles, brothers Noah and Josephus.

OTHER MALE REPRESENTATIVE

Tokyo Olympic Games 400m finalist, Christopher Taylor, with an indoor best of 45.73 seconds, will be the other male representative from Jamaica. He will contest the 400m at 3:24 p.m. He is expected to fight out for the top spot with American Vernon Norwood who has an indoor best of 45.31.

Olympic 100m hurdles finalist Britany Anderson will be one of four Jamaican females down to compete, and the 2017 World Under-17 champion and 2018 World Under-20 silver medallist will be the first Jamaican in action when she contests the 60m hurdles at 2:39 p.m. Her main rivals will be Tokyo silver medallist and world 100m hurdles record holder, Keni Harrison of the United States, her compatriot Gabby Cunningham and Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas. Harrison, with a season’s best of 7.81 seconds, is the fastest in the field.

Olympic Games 4x100 metres gold medallist Briana Williams will contest the women’s 60 metres at 2:45 p.m. Olympian Roneisha McGregor will line up in the women’s 400m at 3:46 p.m. while Tokyo Olympics 800m finalist Natoya Goule will contest the 800m at 4:14 p.m.
