Most improved rider at Caymanas Park for 2021, 27 year-old Tevin Foster, says the award will push him to seek more success in the saddle this year.
Foster, who has been in excellent form this year, copped the award after winning a career-best 35 races last year.
“It is a wonderful feeling to be named the most improved jockey for 2021,” said Foster.
“I have to give God thanks for this and also thanks to everyone who has played a major role in my success so far, and I am just hoping for their continued support and guidance for this year,” he said.
“Getting this award will give me a lot more confidence moving forward,” the former Bridgeport High student said. Foster, who has been riding at Caymanas Park for the past three years, is currently second in the jockeys’ championships with 10 wins and, according to him, his aim is to win the title this year. Dane Dawkins leads the 2022 standings with 15 wins.
“I have been riding well so far this year and so my aim is to become the champion jockey, and so hopefully I can achieve this,” Foster said.
He declined to predict how many races he will win this year but said the aim is to finish on top.
“You can’t capture the title without wins and so, the more races that I win, the better for me,” he said.
The rider has suffered a series of injuries during his short career but pointed out that he is now very fit as he has been exercising a lot of horses in the mornings and he has also been working very hard in the gym.
“I am very fit, as you can see. I am working with champion trainer Anthony Nunes’ barn and he has one of the biggest stables. So there is a lot of work for me,” he said.
