Investigators are probing two multimillion-dollar robberies in as many days in the Kingston Eastern and St Mary police divisions.
In the latest incident, detectives are probing a daring multimillion-dollar daylight robbery of a Beryllium Limited courier vehicle that reportedly had mechanical difficulties while traversing through Rollington Town Wednesday.
On Monday, approximately $8 million was reportedly stolen from a Western Union outlet in Oracabessa, St Mary.
Head of the St Mary Police Division, Superintendent Bobette Morgan-Simpson, said those intruders wore masks and also spray-painted security cameras before prising off a grille and entering the building.
The thieves allegedly removed a vault containing Jamaican and foreign currency.
The Gleaner understands that in the Rollington Town incident, some time after noon Wednesday, the guards were reportedly pounced upon by men travelling in a motor car while attending to the defective Toyota Probox motor vehicle. More than 20 million was stolen.
The incident occurred on Jackson Road.
The four guards gave statements in relation to the heist.
Beryllium, in a press statement, said it was aware of an incident involving a company vehicle that took place on June 8.
The company said the incident is now the subject of a police investigation.
Renee McCallum, a director, declined to comment when contacted by The Gleaner.
Head of the Kingston Eastern Police Division, Superintendent Tommie-Lee Chambers, told The Gleaner she was unable to speak at the time.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
Up to June 6, Kingston Eastern has recorded a 35.3 per cent decline in robberies year on year.
There have been 11 robberies this year compared to 17 for the corresponding period in 2021.
In the St Mary division, robberies have increased by 18 per cent.
