Timing was everything for Kimeika Fairclough and Sean Burgess, who first met as neighbours living in Gordon Town, St Andrew, back in 2006. Casual glances and thought-provoking conversations led to a crush, which soon grew into something more. Break-ups and make-ups later, 2020 came, and the vision became clear. The couple wasted no time reigniting their love, getting engaged less than a year later and tying the knot in June of this year.
Sean recalled he and his brother wanting to know Kim and her twin sister better. Observing that her twin was naturally reserved, he gravitated towards Kim and took great pleasure picking her brain.
“We argued or disagreed about almost everything, but I could hardly wait for whatever free time we had to have our little chat again. I discreetly admired her intelligence, but couldn’t stand how she had to debate everything. I started calling her ‘a lawyer’. I couldn’t pinpoint exactly what it was, but I knew something was special. The impact she had on my little unsuspecting heart was transparent,” he told Island Wedding.
The intrigue was certainly mutual for Kim, who found Sean cute. But she remained cautious, given the first impressions. “Initially, I thought, ‘Wow! This is a cute one!’ But I also thought he was just not my type because he seemed so ‘gangster’, and he would put my heart in trouble.” But you know what they say: the heart wants what it wants.
Sean continues to be amazed by her beauty, noting that she could actually be a model. For him, there was no question of her intellect. In fact, that was what attracted him to her as well. But he was also blown away by her selflessness. The fact that she is grounded and outspoken was icing on the cake. “Kim can be the light in any room. She’ll put you first and have your best interest at heart once she cares for you. She’ll do almost anything for her loved ones. But she is not a walkover. She will definitely help to keep me grounded as well,” he shared, adding that she is loving, encouraging and reassuring.
“She’s definitely my number one fan and my air conditioner. Through her eyes, I can see my dreams becoming a reality; and for me, that’s really deep, something special. She’s not afraid to voice her concerns, which helps me to see things from another perspective, contributing more to my humility since I might just be dead wrong. She taught me the real meaning of love and togetherness. She constantly reminds me that I am loved and therefore lack nothing.”
When it came time for Kim to describe Sean, she went with five Rs: responsible, resolute, real, romantic and respectful. “Sean is certain of himself, confident in his abilities, and takes his role as a man very seriously. He is fully in touch with himself and knows that those who need and depend on him should not be disappointed at a whim. He puts everything into being a father, husband, son, mentor and friend. He carries a deep passion for serving in his capacities. He will give you the truth and take the consequences (if any) afterwards, and show you that he loves and honours you. He is deliberate in trying to understand me and finding the ways in which I can be appeased. He takes pride in pleasing, even with simple and basic gestures. And he firmly believes in mutual love, respect, compassion, and empathy.”
When Island Wedding asked when they went from a friendly duo to an official couple, Kim answered that this was a tricky one, because several attempts were made to have a romantic relationship. “The first attempt was made in 2006, which lasted for a few years on a consistent on-and-off basis. We decided many times in-between that we would be friends. We had a serious breakup in 2015 and moved on to seeing other persons. There was a significant game changer which came in 2020, and we have been inseparable since then.”
Less than a year later, Sean decided that their shared, unconditional and rare love needed an upgrade. So he asked Kim to marry him.
“With the help of her sister and best friends, we arranged everything for her photo shoot and surprise baby shower. Without her realising, her twin sister snatched a fashion ring from her that she often wears on her middle finger, and then one of her friends helped me to choose the best ring size, which we estimated to be one size down. Kim thought the baby shower was the icing on the cake, until one of my close friends interrupted the shower and said, ‘We have to make the shower more spectacular.’ He stepped across and handed me the ring box. I opened the box, went on one knee, then the tears of joy started to flow.”
The wedding planning process saw the couple receive great assistance from close family members and friends. But the wedding dress selection was not as smooth. After dealing with the stress of an online vendor, she eventually found her dream dress at LuxBrides JA. “LuxBrides was the calm after the storm. My dress was exquisite,” she remarked.
On June 18, Kimeika and Sean exchanged vows and said ‘I do’ at Craigbank Estate on Old Stony Hill Road in St Andrew. Kimeika stunned her guests and her groom in a gorgeous ivory gown with a sweetheart neckline. For the beautiful bride, her wedding was more than she could ever dream or hope for. “The best moment for me was the exchange of vows between my husband and me.”
As for the handsome groom, it was a fairy tale which became an enchanting reality the moment he saw his bride walking towards him, “She wore the most beautiful smile, accompanied by her wedding attire. She looked so confident and so sure. She brought tears to my eyes while reading her vows; I didn’t see that one coming.”
Their first dance as husband and wife was also extra special. The bride recalled, “zoning into him at the moment; we were in our own little world”.
