Hydel High School’s Nastassia Fletcher booked her spot in the Girls’ Class III 400 metres semi-final after cruising to a 56.29 clocking to win heat two of the event ahead of St Jago’s Brianna Redwood in 58.89 and St. Elizabeth Technical’s Mareka Williams, who finished third in 59.55.
Excelsior’s Breana Brown, who enters the 2023 ISSA/GraceKennedy Athletics Championships as the Corporate Area champions, was also safely through to Wednesday morning’s semi-final on the back of a composed 56.84 victory in heat one ahead of Lacovia’s Tiffany Watson in 58.43 and third-place finisher Dhavia Hupstead of Manchester High, who crossed the tape in 59.40.
The record in the event, 52.52, done by Holmwood Technical standout Anneisha McLaughlin in 2001, is one of the longest-standing records at the high school track meet.
