Jamaica's Ainsley Campbell captured Jamaica's first gold medal on the track, doing so in the boys’ under-20 1500 metres at the 50th Carfita Games this afternoon in the Bahamas.
Campbell won the title in 4:05.54 minutes while Bermuda's Kahzi Sealey was second in 4:06.34. Guyana's Seon Booker of Guyana was third in 4:08.38.
Among the under-20 girls, Kishay Rowe and Jody-Ann Mitchell copped silver and bronze medals with times of 4:53.79 and 4:55.99 respectively. Barbadian Layla Haynes captured the title in 4:53.29.
Barbados completed the double in the under-17 girls final with Ashlyn Simmons winning in 4:51.65. Dena-Marie Barby of Curacao was second in 4:52.57 and Erin Barr of the Bahamas was third in 4:54.09. Jamaica's Kededra Coombs was ninth in 5:22.57.
Joel Martin added to Jamaica's medal tally with a bronze in the boys’ under-17 final, clocking 4:13.82. Demetire Meyers of Belize won gold in 4:11.19 and Guyana's Javon Roberts finished second in 4:13.63.
