Is it possible to lead a worry-free life? What does one need to be free from worries? Most people would say that one must have enough money without which it is well-nigh impossible to be free from worry. In a world of economic uncertainties, providing for oneself and one’s family is a prime concern. There are countless people who do not know about their next meal.
Does this mean that the wealthy are worry-free? That is hardly the case. They may not have financial worries but unhappy relationships, social pressures. The stress from trying to keep up with more ‘successful’ peers drives them to misery. Almost everyone has one form of worry or another. From the moment they wake up, they worry about themselves, their family, work, friends, and relatives. Even children, who are supposedly in the happiest period of their life, complain of stress from their studies.
A major reason behind such anxiety is the thought, “I have to do this, or that ... .” We pit ourselves against circumstances that we see as somehow stacked against us. This sows the seeds of stress in all our efforts to overcome and cope with situations and people. Life seems stressful or a burden. The result is despondence, tiredness, anger, worries, etc.
Acceptance and faith can change all of this. If we see life as a struggle, we may end up struggling all the time. It is important to accept and let go of problems over which we don’t have control. Having faith that things will eventually take a turn for the better saves us from unnecessary worry. Positive thoughts are the first step towards achieving a good outcome. Such thoughts create the right attitude, leading to the right actions and producing favourable results.
Have you ever noticed how babies sleep soundly in their parents’ arms? They have complete faith that they will be loved, protected, and cared for. When we take responsibility upon ourselves, our burdens increase.
Have faith in the higher power, the benevolent Father, and consider yourself an instrument, a server, which dissolves worry. Other people are not our rivals, but fellow travellers in the journey of life. Our fulfilment comes from being the best that we can be. When we maintain an elevated awareness, we function on the basis of our best qualities, of peace, love, and truth. That brings joy and contentment. This is the key to becoming worry free.
