WOLMER’S BOYS’ School came from a goal down to beat Vauxhall High School 4-2 in Group D of the ISSA Manning Cup at the Mico College yesterday.
The win put the Jerome Waite-coached team atop the group on goal difference ahead of St Jago, who stopped Donald Quarrie 3-1 to stay level with the leaders on six points after two games.
Winning coach Jerome Waite said their opponents driven, scoring from the first minute, but that to come back and get four goals was very positive from his team.
“We were on the backfoot. We took a while to get going but once we got going, you could see we were the better unit.
“Four goals speaks volumes but we still have a lot of work to do. We need to possess the ball some more and based on the opportunities we are creating, we need to make use of the opportunities. “But what is good is that we are creating opportunities. We have too many turnovers and once you have too much of that it will result in goals. But it is a work in progress and a learning process,” said Waite.
On their first attack of the game, Vauxhall took the lead thanks to Jevauni Cummings good work.
However, Jayden Walters pulled them level on 23 minutes with a header. Nathaniel Brooks slotted home three minutes later to put Wolmer’s ahead and Addon Daye added a third two minutes before half time to give the home team a 3-1 cushion at the break.
Wolmer’s wasted a number of chances to add to their tally. However, nine minutes into the second period, Dante Dacres converted from the penalty spot to put the game out of reach.
But six minutes from time, Andre Williams made the game interesting when he capitalised on a defensive blunder.
“I am proud of my players. They fought and that was one of the pre-match talks, to fight no matter the score, and I think they did that today. So I am proud of them,” Vauxhall coach Javauni Codlin said.
