Sashi, the iconic music festival that captivated audiences for years, is set to return to Ocho Rios from May 23 to 26, 2024.
A press release stated that “Sashi marks not just a comeback but a renaissance, placing a spotlight on community development, economic empowerment, and the flourishing creative industry that is at the heart of Jamaica’s cultural identity”.
The Sashi team, led by its founder Horatio Hamilton, is committed to leveraging the festival’s influence for positive change. With a focus on community development, Sashi aims to uplift local communities and contribute to the economic empowerment of Jamaicans. Recognising the creative industry as one of Jamaica’s greatest assets, Sashi will spearhead initiatives to create opportunities within the industry, fostering growth and sustainability on a global scale.
Sashi is committed to unveiling the next generation of designers.
A hallmark of the event has always been the spectacular fashion show, and the next staging will be no exception. The mission to discover and showcase up-and-coming Jamaican designers will culminate with the selection of the top two designers from every parish.
They will have a unique opportunity to showcase their pieces at the prestigious Sashi fashion show, drawing the attention of global buyers, funding agencies, and potential customers eager to witness the innovation and creativity emerging from Jamaica’s vibrant fashion scene, the organisers stated.
Sashi is also embarking on an islandwide talent search to unearth hidden gems within the creative industry. This initiative is not just about finding designers, it’s about providing a platform for talented individuals to shine.
The talent search aligns with Hamilton’s vision of giving back to the community and steering young people away from potential pitfalls. Through this effort, Sashi aims to nurture talent, instill hope, and pave the way for a brighter future.
Hamilton expressed his commitment to the festival’s transformative role, saying, “Sashi is more than a music festival; it’s a movement. We want to channel our energy and resources into building a future where young people have opportunities to thrive in the creative industry. It’s about redirecting paths and providing alternatives to a life that might lead them astray.”
