A nine-year-old boy was shot dead in May Pen, Clarendon on Friday night.
The child has been identified as Shamar Walker, of Church Street in May Pen.
The child's mother was also shot during the incident and remains hospitalised in serious condition.
Reports are that about 7:45 p.m., a group of people were at a shop operated by the child's mother when a man entered the establishment. He reportedly remained there for about 30 minutes before opening gunfire, hitting the child and his mother.
They were rushed to hospital where Shamar was pronounced dead on arrival and his mother admitted.
Investigators say the woman had filed a report regarding a robbery at her premises on Tuesday. They are investigating whether the two incidents are connected.
