Police investigators believe popular entertainer Medikk was the victim of a contract killing.
However, the police have declined to comment further, citing the on-going investigations.
The disclosure came yesterday, hours after the police reported that the skeletal remains of the entertainer, whose real name is Stephany Williams, were found in a canefield in Wallen, St Catherine on Wednesday.
She had been missing since August last year.
Medikk was last seen at her St Andrew home on August 24, the Constant Spring police reported at the time.
“We are almost certain, but we are awaiting DNA tests to determine conclusively that it’s her,” said one police source.
“They found what appeared to be a gold chain, gold bracelet, sneakers, a pair of black tights and some other things.”
At the time that she went missing, the 29-year-old woman was said to have been last seen wearing a black blouse, black tights, and a pair of black shoes.
There is no indication as to how she died.
“A post-mortem will determine that,” said the source.
Medikk was a well-known performer on the dancehall scene, best known for her songs Boss Level, with Jahvillani, and Like Wah.
She was also a businesswoman who manufactured and distributed natural hair and skin care products, under the brand name Rheborn Holistic.
In a report in The Sunday Gleaner last year, it was noted that family members described Williams as a woman with a strong work ethic and an unwavering sense of independence.
