The roster of the St Catherine Municipal Corporation will have 13 additional members, who were sworn in on Thursday as newly elected councillors, to serve their constituents.
Among the newbies is Correll Davis of the Mount Industry division in North East St Catherine.
“I feel very honoured to be here on the vote of the Mount Industry division. It was a very rough journey but I am finally here,” Davis said. “I am pleased that, although I have gone through so much, I have delivered now as a member of the Jamaica Labour Party, but I will be serving everyone,” Davis said.
The swearing-in, held March 7 at Emancipation Square, saw several members of parliament and supporters of the two major political parties in attendance.
During the function, Councillor Norman Scott of the Greendale division, who was selected as mayor for the third consecutive time, told the audience that it was a meaningful time in the life of governance at any level.
“We are now duly sworn to act with accountability and transparency for those who elected us to serve them for the next four years,” Scott said.
He told the audience that, regretfully, his Deputy Mayor Ralston Wilson was involved in a magisterial recount process which prevented him from being sworn in.
“I must let you know, some of us have been returned, others lost, but we are here to serve the St Catherine Municipal Corporation, not only as PNP and JLP, but in a holistic manner,” Scott said.
He said that transparency will be the hallmark of his leadership, and, as such, all committee meetings with the exception of two will be open to the media.
Meanwhile those sworn in were charged to act with dignity, pride and accountability in their service to the people.
In the February 26 local government elections, the People’s National Party (PNP) retained the majority 22 to 19 in the nation’s largest municipality.
