A sprawling investigation, involving multiple law enforcement agencies, is under way to identify the mastermind behind an J$11-billion cocaine stash that was seized in St Andrew on Tuesday, sources have disclosed.
Approximately 2,600 kilograms or 5,569 pounds of cocaine, with a street value of US$75.79 million, were found at a house in the community of Havendale during a three-hour operation by the police, officials confirmed yesterday.
“A whole heap a cocaine that,” said one police source who did not want to be named because they are not authorised to comment publicly on the probe.
Five people were arrested during the operation, and remained in custody up to late yesterday, officials revealed.
No criminal charges have been laid against any of the five men.
Two motor vehicles were also seized.
Police officials declined to comment publicly on the case, citing the delicate nature of the investigation.
